Staying Up to Date on UK Domestic Abuse Law
During my time offline, I reviewed important legal developments in the UK that impact survivors:
- The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 now recognises coercive and controlling behaviour as abuse, expanding legal protections.
- Stalking Protection Orders and stronger enforcement of coercive control measures provide additional safety for survivors.
- Increasing focus on children and teenagers affected by domestic abuse ensures their experiences are recognised alongside adults.
Understanding these changes helps me guide clients safely through legal processes while focusing on emotional healing.
Advances in Trauma Therapy
Therapeutic approaches to trauma continue to evolve, and I reflected on methods that best support recovery:
- EMDR and somatic therapies are highly effective for processing trauma and PTSD.
- Neuroscience-informed methods explain how trauma affects memory, emotions, and behaviour.
- Inclusive, trauma-informed approaches ensure therapy supports individuals from all backgrounds. There is a growing focus on inclusive, intersectional approaches, recognising how trauma impacts different communities in unique ways, particularly LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities
Being offline allowed me to focus on evidence-based strategies that genuinely benefit clients, free from social media noise.
Connection Beyond Social Media
Stepping back from social media reminded me that real connection happens in safe, supportive spaces. Direct contact through discovery calls, online sessions, or in-person therapy creates deeper, more meaningful connections with clients. After this long break and being able to focus on my practice and myself I am ready to come back to social media and connect digitally again without it detracting from real world connection with clients, friends, family and peers.
